16-Year-Old Charged for Shooting Officer in the Stomach

IMG_0063A 16-year-old boy has charges pending against him for shooting a Cornelius police officer who was responding to a call about domestic disturbance Saturday.

Grayson Ferrell shot Lt. James Quattlebaum in the stomach area after he arrived at the scene of the call in the 19400 block of Coachman’s Trace around 11:40 a.m., according to police.

Responding officers found a single mother, Stefanie Aron, her son Ferrell, and Ferrell’s girlfriend at the Coachman’s Trace home.

Another officer on the scene returned the fire to Ferrell, who is believe to have been hit at least one time but was not injured seriously because he had on a bulletproof vest, police said.

Quattlebaum was transported to Charlotte’s Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to fully recover, according to police.

Cornelius police continue to investigate the shooting and have asked CMPD to take over it.
