2 Arrested in Connection With Fatal Shooting in Kannapolis

CIC Default Crime ReportTwo men have been arrested in connection with a Kannapolis shooting that killed on man on Sunday, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.

Christopher Todd Rumple, 48, of Carter Street was identified as the victim in the shooting. Rumple and his son, Zachary Rumple, were both arrested on several occasions in 2015 for selling heroin to undercover officers on multiple occasions.

Rumple was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound by Rowan County detectives early on Sunday after they responded to report of a shooting on Carter Street.

A witness called 911 after seeing a tan car leaving the scene. A car matching the description was later seen by China Grover police and the vehicle was stopped near Webb Road on I-85, police said.

Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators identified both people in the vehicle as Jahari S. Rustin, 20, of 2113 E. Innes Street in Salisbury, and Jai Montreal Winchester, 21, of 1607 Lakewood Dr. in Salisbury.

They were each charged with Rumple’s murder. Police also found a handgun in the vehicle.
