Maggie Elizabeth Thompson, age 18, was arrested last night for prostitution, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting a police officer. As I normally do, I took a look at her prior arrests. Come to find out... Maggie Thompson has been prostituting herself since she was 16 years old! I have a hard time looking at the arrest records when I see a young woman who has been arrested for prostitution 7 times before her 18th birthday! This is very, very sad.Please note the amount of time she has spent in jail. Obviously, she was not bailed out when she was arrested like the violent criminals are. On a few of arrests, her address is listed as "homeless." How does this happen? What can be done to help these young women who prostitute themselves or young men who carry guns to school? I am saddened to have to report this kind of stuff but I think it is important for people to know what is happening in Charlotte.
Maggie's first arrest was on April 6, 2005. (Photo Left) She looks like a typical pimple faced 16 year old but she was arrested for soliciting for prostitution, soliciting for crimes against nature and aid/abed prostitution (see comments for definitions) She spent 7 days in jail.One day after she was released from jail, on April 13, 2005, Maggie was arrested again for soliciting a crime against nature and spent 2 days in jail. Two months later, on June 14, 2005, she was arrested for soliciting for a crime against nature. She spent 15 days in jail. One month later, on July 11, 2005, Maggie was arrested again for soliciting for prostitution and soliciting for crimes against nature. She spent 9 days in jail and this was her last arrest as a 16 year old.
Eight months later, at age 17, (Photo Right) Maggie was arrested again. On April 16, 2006, she was arrested for soliciting for prostitution and she spent 16 days in jail. Two months after that, on June 11, 2006, she was arrested for loitering for solicitation of prostitution and spent 26 days in jail. On September 23, 2006, she was charged with her first and only drug related arrest- for possession of drug paraphernalia. She spent two days in jail. Her next arrest, now 18 years old, was last night. She is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

I, too, see these young people that end up like this young lady and wonder what happened. Run-aways, rebels, absent parents, orphan? Who knows, it's tragic. Further, the men that would exploit this poor child should be castrated. Each and every "jon" that used this person like a napkin and tossed her aside like trash should be fed their naughty bits in the form of a smoothie.
She is a sad product of what we as society calls one of the young girls that was probably molested as a young girl and never told or seeked help. I would love to find her mother and give her a piece of my mind. She isn't a bad kid at all. How can we as a society continue to let things happen like this?
I spent a year investigating street prostitutes and there is as many reasons for their being on the streets as there are girls. Each has their own story and sometimes a great deal of blame can be placed on the parents. Still, it is the girl's decision what she does with her life.
I've know some who came from good families, some that were highly educated, some that seemed to have ideal marriages, and, of course, the many who fit the profile of a troubled youth.
Placing blame doesn't help anymore than locking them up in jail. Sometimes I beleive jail is the worst thing we can do for them. Mental health courts, drug treatment centers, and a community based support system would be more effective and less costly.
I'm for stronger laws against johns, but men make and enforce the laws and partronize the prostitutes so that isn't likely to happen.
I actually know of this girl. I work in an area that she walks the streets. She's not homeless. However, she does have a pimp. She's been prostituting since she was 15. She just had a baby recently. It's truly sad.
Today, you can probably ride down a certain street and see her walking with one of her pimps two blocks ahead of her.
