Seventeen of the
arrested drag racers appeared in court to face a judge today. All of the young men pled guilty. Each one lost their car and was placed on probation for one year. Police did such a great job collecting evidence on these guys, they didn't stand a chance! - Source:

As a shareholder of Krispy Kreme, I am more than excited. After the seizure and sell of these cars, CMPD will finally be able to pay off their 6 figure doughnut tab.
How much are these cars worth?
I find it ironic that these people face real penalties while the violent thugs of Charlotte tend to have their charges dismissed.
The penalties don't seem to fit the crime.
I'd bet that most of the violent criminals routinely shown on this page paid little or no real fines to the courts.
Something is wrong when offenses like street racing warrant greater punishment than armed robbery, attempted murder or aggravated assault.
I agree with Matt. As an aside, is there a street racing problem in the Stone Crest area?
I live very near Stonecrest, and am not a teenager.
The problem was not as bad as implied in the story. These kids and their loud cars were noticeable, because they would park in the Stonecrest lot on Friday and Saturday nights.
I don't think it was any more of a problem than in other parts of town. I think the people who complained about the the loud exhausts have more clout than those in other parts of town.
I'm not sure it's worth devoting undercover police time to this issue. There are break-ins in the area that would seem to warrant a higher priority than kids with noisy exhausts.
