Mecklenburg County prosecuters could learn a lesson from the federal authorities about prosecuting criminals.

these seem like very harsh sentences for a standard convenience store robbery, I know im gonna catch alot of flak for this on here but i personally think that harsh sentences like these are counterproductive and increase crime by affecting the families of the offenders, i think there should be much more focus on rehabilitation than just warehousing criminals at taxpayer expense

Good thing it wasn't the Mecklenburg Conty Court or they probably would have gotten time served. Also, in response to the previous comment, how does taking 3 people willing to go into a buisness and point a gun at someone for the small amount of cash these stores typically keep in their register and keeping them locked up for years to come, too harsh.

anonymous, I'm not being hard on you for having an opinion; however, you don't offer any reasons for your it. How exactly would a long sentence increase crime by affecting the offender's family? Are you making the loaf-of-bread argument? We all know that tired paradigm is outdated. These guys would have spent the money on drugs or perhaps some new rims, but certainly not on feeding their families. Maybe the long sentence will actually make their family members think twice about committing armed robbery. At least we know these guys won't be for a while.

those guys would continue to do crime if they were on the steets. How many crimes did they commmit before getting caught? I dare say the 30:1 ratio of crimes committed to crimes apprehended for is pretty accurate.

too harsh punishment? thats very tolerant of you. Someone needs a wake up call.

Punishment too harsh??!! Because it affects the offenders' families?

First of all, you are assuming that these guys are involved parents and family members. I rather doubt they'll be missed when it comes to providing support; financial or otherwise.

Second, the families of the clerks in the stores should celebrate these long sentences and thank God every day that their loved ones weren't shot and killed by these criminals during the armed robberies.

These guys are a joke. How much money did they expect to get from this. They should get 30 yrs. Just for the stupidity. The problem seems to be that these dumb asses either don't know the penalties. Or don't care. In either case throw the freaking book as far as you can. Someone talked about rehabilitation. You rehabilitate persons with mental illness. You PROSECUTE, CONVICT and IMPRISON fools like these forever. Now we are at the point where we must not be ashamed or afraid to actually take a criminals life and put it where it cannot harm decent citizens. That is either in a pine box or behind bars.
