Police Arrest Man for Killing CMPD Officers

After Officer Jeff Shelton and Officer Sean Clark were fatally shot last night, police have tried to piece together the tragic chain of events that led to the shooting deaths of two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers.

Throughout the day, detectives have interviewed witnesses and teams of officers have collected evidence while those close to the slain officers provide essential support to the officers' family members and each other.

CMPD Homicide Detectives interviewed and subsequently signed Murder warrants against Demetrius Antonio Montgomery (R).

Montgomery is charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. He has a lengthy arrest history in Mecklenburg County, dating back to January of 1998. His charges are mainly misdemeanor assaults, including an assault on a police officer. - View DOC Record - Montgomery is scheduled for his first court appearance on Tuesday at 1:00pm.

This is an on-going criminal investigation. If you have information regarding this case please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

another savage who had given notice to society that he could not control himself. was a cop fighter, now a cop killer. Wake up Charlotte or you will be the next New Orleans.

Now maybe this city will understand the dangers their police officers face daily.
These are men and women who leave thier families every night to go out in the dangerous parts of this city to keep us safe.
what would it take for you to to do that on a daily basis? Officers are attacked every day, assaulted stabbed with needles, spit on etc. but you never hear of that. This is the time that all of the citizens of Charlotte should stand up and support their officers. Could you imagine what this city would be like without them? Think about it.

You guys are confused. Last fall I specifically heard the Charlotte Chief of Police say we don't have a crime problem here in Charlotte.

Anonymous said...

I feel for these cops and their families. We are so lucky to have them protecting us everyday from scum like this. Maybe this story being covered on CNN will give national attention to the problems we have here in Charlotte.

Mayor McCrory ought to be ashamed of the way we blow money on every new project imaginable, while neglecting our police and fire departments.

As I understand it, a city the size of Charlotte should have at least an additional 100 police officers. Apparently the pay isn't up to par, either.

It's times like this that I wonder why these guys risk it all for us, knowing that they are understaffed and underpaid.

Look at this mug shot of him:

http://mcso.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/getimagefromdbby/getimagefromdbby.asp?booking_number=1266249&select=thumbnail

Everything must be one big joke to him! And why not? How many times do you have to prove to society that you are a souless monster before they lock you up and throw away the key? I'm sure he's sitting in his his jail cel this moment laughing and thinking that his lawyer (coutesy of the tax payers) will get him off. Or how he will get to see all his homies, and it will be one big gang banging drug party in the federal pen. He might even get to bunk with Ray Coruth! Give him his damn trial and then look him in the eyes and put a bullet in his non functioning brain! Do it for the widows and orphans of these officers. Do it for the unborn baby who will never get to be held by his/ her father!

It would be great if the "leaders" of Charlotte would support the police by keeping these low-lifes locked up instead of emboldening them to further crime by erasing the negative consequences of their actions. But this might cost some money which we certainly wouldn't want to take away from some politician's pet project, now would we? No, better to keep these dangerous creeps out there to threaten citizens and for the police to deal with over and over and save that tax money for more important things like NASCAR museums and trains.

That's what world-class cities do!

With regards to the first comment, we are already closer to being New Orlens than you think. We still have 100's of katrina evacuees living here on government assistance. Why go home where you might have to work to rebuild your community when you can stay here and just about get away with murder!

Maybe we can use Bobcats Arena as a prison. From the pitiful ticket sales I keep reading about, the place is almost empty!

Speaking of the arena . . . does anyone remember how it was soundly rejected in a public vote? That sure was a waste of money and time since the mayor and city council chose to ignore public sentiment and build that waste of space anyway.

Just imagine how many jail cells could have been built with that money. Let's face it, jail cells would have a far greater impact on the quality of life in charlotte than any losing NBA team ever could!

Well, Charlotte finally has an identity to call their own!!! After years of attaching the adjective of "World-Class" to everything from it's convention center and airport to it's arena and light rail, we finally have something to be known for - a World Class Cop Killer!!!

But not just any cop killer mind you - one that was repeatedly released after numerous arrests to finally graduate to multiple counts of 1st degree murder!

I lived and worked in Manhattan for 3 years and never once felt the fear I experience when I'm uptown in Charlotte. You can't even go to enjoy fireworks in this town without a gun-shooting, rock-throwing mob of thugs going wild. (Even with them caught on video tape, there was hardly an arrest made so next Fourth of July we can surely expect more of the same.)

Charlotte crooks even invent crimes! I never heard of a "home invasion" before moving to Charlotte.

Charlotte needs their own Rudy Giuliani!!!

I just watched the news - Mayor McNASCAR said the killing of two officers is "unacceptable." So, I guess since Montgomery was set loose after all his other arrests means those crimes were "acceptable?" Words have meaning Pat - and some of us actually have to capacity to listen and understand.

What a dope!

I agree with the earlier post - we need Rudy!

The only thing I can say... is Lord be with us... what happens when innocent people are shot down like this.. these cops were shot in the back of the head... guns still snapped in the holster.. What type of person would do this??? but honestly you really can't put all the blame on him... maybe let his parents share some of it... and from what some of the articles have said .. he was full of hatred for law enforcement... why... maybe if he had a better upbringing he could have respected the law!

Anonymous said...

Charlotte, stop wasting money on choo choos and museums and start protecting your citizens and officers!

Anonymous said...

Now maybe some of these lenient judges will wake up and realize that these repeat offenders go on to commit much more serious crimes and if they would out them away to begin with lives could be spared.

I wonder how many more it will take for Mayor McCheese and the rest of the completely useless city and county council dunderheads to finally realize that Charlotte has a "WORLD CLASS" crime problem. As for me, I am armed at all times since the mayor has relegated the CMPD to the role of Barney Fife. NO OFFENSE TO THE INDIVIDUAL ME & WOMEN IN BLUE, THEY ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE. HOWEVER, THEIR HANDS HAVE BEEN TIED.

May God comfort the grieving families.

I'LL BE HONEST,, I COULD DO WITHOUT OUR CURRENT MAYOR. I COULD EVEN DO WITH A NEW SHERRIF. BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I SEE AS FAR AS CRIME ARE POLICY RESTRICTIONS AND LIBERAL JUDGES (THAT IS MAINTAINING CONTROL OF MYSELF). CRIMINALS IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY HAVE NO FEAR. THEY WILL END UP WITH A SUSPENDED SENTENCE, PJC (PRAYER FOR JUDGEMENT CONTINUED), OR DIFFERRED PROSECUTION,, ALL OF WHICH DOES NOT EVEN ADD UP TO A SLAP ON THE HAND. SPITTING ON A POLICE OFFICER IS A FELONY, HOWEVER MAGISTRATES AND JUDGES VIEW THIS AS JUST PART OF AN OFFICERS JOB (NEVER MIND THE DECEASES TRANSMITTED), HOWEVER TELL ME HOW IT WORKS OUT FOR YOU IF YOU YELL AT A JUDGE OR EVEN BETTER A MAGISTRATE (SITTING BEHIND BULLET PROOF GLASS). THESE THUGS ARE QUICKLY LEARNING, RUN FROM THE POLICE (THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHASE), EVEN IF, AS A THUG, YOUR STUPID ENOUGH TO GET CAUGHT, THE COURTS WILL WALK YOU ANYWAY. YOU WILL WALK NOT JUST THE FIRST TIME, NOT JUST THE SECOND TIME, BUT (USING MR DEMETRIUS A. MONTGOMERY {COP KILLER}AS THE EXAMPLE) AS MANY TIMES AS NECESSARY TO KILL TWO OFFICERS.

I GUESS I JUST WANT TO SEE THE DEATH OF THESE OFFICERS NOT BE IN VAIN, SOMEBODY WAKE UP AND REPAIR THE FLAWS IN THE MECKLENBURG JUDICIAL SYSTEM

So, the scum bag not only likes to beat up women and cops, now he's murdered two officers. No, he's executed two officers.

Wonder who he'll blame? CMS?

Take him out back and fry him.

I've been seeing Shauana Gibbs all over the news today. Gibbs is Montgomery's cousin who he was visiting the night of the murders and is saying he could not have done this and that he didn't have a gun. But guess what, Gibbs has a record of assaulting a government official as well! I guess this is a family hobby. My family all played Scrabble together but I guess all families show solidarity in different ways.

http://arrestinquiryweb.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/ArrestAndCharges.aspx?FirstName=SHAUANA&MiddleName=KALIA&LastName=GIBBS&PID=206201&ArrestNumber=1199737&BrowseLastName=gibbs&BrowseFirstName=sh&BrowseArrest=&BrowseArrestDate=&BrowseLastDayArrests=

By the way, to those using all-caps, please stop! It comes across like your yelling and your points may be lost.

Okay, I feel really bad for this guy. I'm sure he was picked on his whole life because he is not white. So my recommendation for justice for him is that he stand at the intersection of Trade an Tryon and let's select a couple of cops (Charlotte's Best) and shot him right between the eyes, but let's use a 22 so he will not die immediately. Let him suffer like the scumbag he is. There is nothing bad enough that can be done to him for the hurt he has caused this community and the families of the officers who's lives he took for absolutely no reason. What a waste for a human being. Hang him, shot him, anything that will make him suffer and let's see how strong he is then. Come on Charlotte let's get tough on crime. If the criminals can kill cops, then I see no reason cops shouldn't be able to kill these lowlifes.

To the person who made the statement about Manhattan. I lived and worked in Manhattan, and you have got to be joking if you say that Manhattan isn't as bad as Charlotte. Have you ever gotten on the E train to Queens? I beg to differ. Have you read a daily news paper? I read it on a regular and there are at least 5 killings per night in New York. Be honest and keep it real, New York is much worse than Charlotte

I have the utmost respect for police officer. They risk their lives every single day. I think police officers should be making as much money as these cornball athletes who all they need to do is hit a ball or put a ball in a hoop. Officers should make as much if not more than doctors.

Maybe Charlotte will wake up now and consider what is more important before committing to unnecessary projects, i.e. NASCAR, BOBCats Arena,a one way rail system(What a JOKE!)white water parks and other unnecessary crap that can be placed on the back burner.

Priorities such as the well being of citizens should be FIRST. Now, the well being of officers need to be taken into account-they need HELP to combat these thugs.

So, City of Charlotte, are you going to give US, the residents, more police officers to perform their jobs?

This city has let down its police force. Thank you City of Charlotte for support...

You're right about one thing, change starts at home.

Perhaps if Demetrius had been home with his two children, mentoring, reading to them or tucking them into bed, this would never have happened. Instead, he was hanging out with a loaded gun looking for trouble.

Demetrius is 25. He's no kid. He's made lots of choices in life, many of them bad. But they were his choices.

When staying in school, marrying your partner, parenting your own children, and taking personal responsibility become the main objectives in the "community", things will change.

Please get over this whole ghetto thing. The ghetto has absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact of the matter is that two fine men are dead, two women are widows, and two children are fatherless. All of this thanks to a pathetic excuse for a human being. I don't care if he is black, white, purple, green or yellow...he needs to be taken care of in a swift and ruthless fashion. I pray that the DA's office will wake up now that two officers are dead. Let's face it. Had this scumbag been dealt with properly by the DA's office the first five times, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to kill these officers. Thank you Peter Gilchrist. Thank you for failing Charlotte once again. There is one postitive thing that can be said...at least our judicial system is consistant.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I think since he has been in trouble before, he should be given the death sentence and then strapped to the electric chair and fry for what he did to them two officers and the families that are left behind to suffer. He was up to no good anyway; it would just get one troublemaker off the streets and he wouldn't be able to assault or kill anyone ever again. And I feel, like society sure wouldn't miss this sumbag! I believe in the saying, an eye for an eye. Or better yet, put him out and let the families shoot him with no mercy the way that he did to their love ones. Come on, cops need to be given respect because they put their life on the lines everyday. Money needs to be made more available for the most up to date things to keep police officers safe. ANd frankly, this is not about race. It could have been any race and I would say the same thing...people want to make it out to be race; there are good and bad in all races.

Where's Al Sharpton? Was this not a racial hate crime?

It has been a sad week. I've read all the comments. The city needs to make changes. Nobody should be able to wear their pants down around their knees. Easier to hide a weapon. The county has a lot of government info online. Evictions should be put online for landlords to few while considering an application. They shouldn't rent to anyone evicted because most are on drugs, etc. Run them all out of the city for a home. A red ribbon should be worn by everyone with open notice that if the judges don't prosecute and get serious, they are out. The kids learn at home so parents should be held accountable. There are so many ways to stop the bs and people need to quit complaining and start campaigning.

I wonder if the City of Charlotte is now re-evaluating how to spend tax dollars since 2 heroes were killed trying to protect the lives of City Council members and Mayor McCrory along with other hard working Meck Co residents.

The City of Charlotte could have had extra resources had it listened to the residents voting NO several times for Bobcats arena-that money could have gone to the CMPD, Medics and Fire Depts. Seems to be a no-brainer to me. I guess that NASCAR museums, white water parks and greedy owners of sports teams(Bob Johnson) get to rely on the hard working people of Charlotte to pay for their toys while our true heroes-the civil servants of our community suffer due to lack of resources. Wake Up, Pat McCrorey and City Counicil, wake up so that our heroes can better prepare themselves!

I am highly suspicious about this case. How does a 25 yr old execute two trained police officers from behind point blank? According to reports neither officer was able to even get their gun out of the holster. The shootings were not done of rage or fear but was cold calculated execution.

The last high profile murder case in Charlotte which caused me this much discomfort was the Rae Carruth murder for hire case.

For those of you who dont remember Carruth supposedly hired a hit man "Van Brett Wadkins" to terminate a pregnancy!

And in the middle of the Carruth case we had another Panther involved in a murder, but in this case he was the victim. Fred Lane former Panther was said to have been executed in his home shot at point blank range by his wife Deidra Lane. This occurred in the middle of the Carruth charges. The two cases were never connected but I still believe that they were connected.

Now here comes another murder case which begs more questions than it answers.

At the arraignment of this 25 yr old suspected cop killer he was surrounded by many police officers just staring him down. As if he was warned not to say anything at all in his defense or anything which might cause suspicion as to what is really going on here. This reminds me of Lee Harvey Oswald in custody 44 years ago.

The suspect was even assigned the same public defender "Jean Lawson" that represented the shooter in the Carruth case "Van Bret Wadkins".

But something is very, very wrong with the story that we are being told. There is no way this 25 yr old kid executed these two police officers. And where is the murder weapon(s)?

Anonymous said...

Has it ever occured to you that this suspect just might be innocent?

Charlotte has a false economy, one that is built on banking, real estate, sports/ entertainment, retail services and last of all "drugs".

I am not convinced that the shooting of these two police officers was the work of one man, be it this man or another "Lee Harvey Oswald" snagged off the streets by a complicit CMPD.

Anytime you have a city built on hot money flows instead of production you find that underneath it all reides the "illicit drug trade". And a growing drug trade, run by the financial institutions and people beyond suspicion.

And running this trade here in Charlotte are a few of the largest and dirtiest financial institutions in this country.

The tragedy that occured is likely related to this dirty little "secret" which now will be covered up by frying this 25 yr old Lee Harvey Oswald and appealing to the populist rage of the white suburbanite population here in Charlotte.

Let's have a real investigation. For starters let the CMPD produce the murder weapon and tie that murder weapon to the death of both officers. For my money there was more than one shooter.

And Mayor McCrory is the friendly face behind an ugly city. A city still run by the Confederacy.

Don't try to spin this into something that it isn't.

This thug shot two decent family men, no more, no less. Don't attempt to disparage the memory of two good men with some wild-ass theory.

To the previous two commentors.....do you frequently see black helicopters following you home? Do you wrap your heads in aluminum foil so the CIA can not steal your thoughts? One thing I do hope for.....I hope perhaps a group of "concerned citizens" takes up the slack of an over burdeoned police force, and an underfunded judicial system and perhaps use this website's usefull information for some "preemptive" strikes. If I were on a jury.....I certainly would not fault them for "taking out the trash".....since our current judicial system is ineffective in protecting our citizens. Society will only take this kind of thing for so long......

HOW in the heck is this a RACE thing? Only to the ignorant, whatever their race.

Have you thought about the fact that it was SOMEONE that killed these officers? Your Lee Harvey Oswald or not two people are dead. The city can't cover that up. They are DEAD. There is nothing more racist that jumping to the conclusion that it's just to satisfy "white suburbanist" Charlotteans. Get over yourself. If those cops were to have killed Montgomery first, you would throw the first stone. Think about the families living in the neighborhood where the officers were shot. They have been affected by this creep too. They had to watch two human beings die in their own back yards. They will have flashbacks of it for the rest of their lives. Two families will have to learn how to live without husbands/fathers.

We bleed in ONE color!
