She's baaaack!!Judge Norelli is returning to the bench in criminal court. Last week, District Chief Judge Mercer announced he was moving the 'hug-a-thug' Judge to family court due to the numerous complaints he received about her behavior in the courtroom. (Previous Post)
Apparently, the Chief Judge felt the heat from his colleagues. Yesterday, he announced that Norelli is returning to preside in criminal court. In addition, the Chief Judge offered his resignation following the criticism he received for his decision to move Norelli. Mercer said he will allow the N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice to make the decision if he should step down as Chief Judge. (More Info)
Judge Norelli is part of the problem with the Mecklenburg County court system. She is responsible for many of the dismissals we see in the records of repeat offenders. Her behavior in the courtroom, especially her lack of respect for the police, does not help anyone. The offenders go unpunished, laugh at the police and continue to commit crime. Why wouldn't they? They know if they are caught... chances are good they will get off.

Here's the rest of the story. Judge Norelli has very powerful friends.
She may have gone over his head, but it is time that these judges see they are not as powerful and as needed as they think they are. People say there are doctors who suffer from a "God complex"? What about judges like Judge Norelli and Judge Fauste? I think it is time people go to the press to have these two removed and to show others the power of the people they are supposed to truly be representing. Anyone agree?

I sure wish the media could sit INCOGNITO in her courtroom and watch what goes on and how different races are treated differently as are different defense attorneys. People have no idea what is going on in THEIR courts of law with judges who DON'T KNOW what the law is and don't keep up to date on ever-changing laws.
Well shes back on the bench because so many attorneys complained. Now who would that be?? You bet its high dollar defense attorneys representing the guilty. And guess who is representing Judge Norelli???? Oh yes, Bill Diehl.

That someone has been charged with a crime does not mean the person is guilty. What kind of country and courtroom are we running when the police and DAs are allowed to dictate how a judge must ruile in criminal court. If the judge does not tow the line, the judge is removed from criminal court. Not only must Fritz Y. Mercer resign as chief judge, he must resign as district judge period.
First of all, he talked to the CHARLOTTE Observer about non-convicting judges on DWIs and the judges were removed from DWI court; then he talked to the CHARLOPTTE OBSERVER about some attorneys and unverified jail visits (AND EVERYONE WHPO WORKS IN THE COURT SYSTEM KNOWS THAT THE MECJKLEBURG COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE DOES KEEP ACCURATE JAIL RECORDS OF VISISTORS AS THE UNITED STATES OFFICE OF AUDIT FOUND) and some (not all of the attorneys with unverified jail visist) were removed from court appointed lists to reporesent the poor, and there has nenever been a charge, a trial nor conviction); then he talked to the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER about Norelli not towing the line and she was removed from criminal court.
JUDGE MERCER BASES ALL HIS DECISIONS ON WHAT HE DISCUSSES WITH THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER.
Did you see in the commentary of 05/11/07 where judge Mercer refers to our (Mecklenburg County district court judges) as "my judges"? Judge Mercer thinks the Courthouse is his KINGDOM. HE NEEDS TO GO. HE SHOULD NOT REMAIN AS A DISTRICT COURT JUDGE BECAUSE ANYONE WHO COMES TO HIS COURTROOM WILL BE FOUND GUILTY.
And defense attorneys don't like that do they? They'd much rather have a judge like Norelli who they can convince to go easy on their client.
The fact that Bill Diehl championed this judge speaks volumes!

I've heard so much from defense attorneys obviously kissing up to the judge in the news....it's unfortunate that our District Attorney's office is really bound and can't come out in public to say how they see the situation

There you have it. Mecklenburg County has once again shown its true colors. The court system is once again kissing up to the criminal element and has proven its spineless practic of justice. When Mercer says he felt the heat from colleagues, is he talking about criminals or defence attornies. The only people I heard complaining on news programs were defence lawyers, nobody else.
Not only that, but the politicians in raleigh have shown the good citizens of Mecklenburg County, they don't care about what happens to victims of crime.
Well good luch Judge Norelli, and Judge Mercer,,, together you can restore the faith in the hearts and minds of the cop killers and criminals that you let walk merrily out of the arms of justice and as a police officer I will continue to do my job better than you do yours, even if I am waisting my time.

No. But some people misunderstood it. This item in the Charlotte Business Journal, now several years old, refers to Judge Nancy Black Norelli's brother, Jim Black. She, indeed, has a brother named Jim Black (as well as a father by the same name), but it's NOT the Jim Black who is former N.C. speaker of the House. The judge is in no way related to the speaker. In researching this question, I happened to find a blog that flatly states they are related. It's wrong. And it demonstrates the need to carefully consider the credibility of the sources you come across on the Web.
