Around 1:30 this afternoon, a man was inside a store when he witnessed Robert McClinton (R) stealing his car from a parking lot located near the corner of Independence Blvd and Idlewild Rd.The victim ran to his car and jumped in the car window as the car thief started to drive away with his car. McClinton crashed the car into one of the pillars at the shopping center and ran from the scene. McClinton was apprehended by police at the corner of Monroe Rd. and Idlewild Rd.
The scary part of this incident is that a baby was behind the window in the path of the car and could have been killed by this thug! As usual, Robert McClinton has an extensive criminal record and he is only 17! Since February of 2006, McClinton has been arrested eight times. If he went to court for any of his prior charges, they were dismissed because he does not appear in the NC DOC database.

All the more reason for more readily available concealed carry permits in Charlotte.
Hey, no worries, just don't conceal it. You'd be suprised how undesirables around you will see it and change their minds about criminal activity.
Just how can a late model car be stolen while the owner is nearby? I bet most car are stolen because the keys are in them. EVERYDAY, I see idiots exit their running vehicles and go into a convenience store my job takes me to. Many people make it too easy for these punks to steal I think.
Yes, he left his car running and McClinton jumped in. I believe it was left running in the fire lane outside a store, but I cannot confirm that.
And yes... it is not smart to leave your car running anywhere! The thugs are everywhere and the minute they see an easy opportunity, they don’t think about the consequences… they just do it! For many of them, it is a natural reaction to take advantage of someone when they get the chance... especially if it is easy (like jumping in a running car.)

Why is every african american offender on this blog labeled a "thug" The caucasians are labeled "sick" and just in need of help. Maybe someone should help the black youth instead of feeling like they all should be locked up or thrown on an island somewhere.
