UPDATE: Police say the autopsy revealed Flores killed her baby girl by stabbing her in the neck at least seven times.Police have charged 20-year old Esther Flores with killing her newborn baby daughter, Esmerelda Garcia Flores.
Police say they were called to Blythe Ridge Court shortly before 7pm on Saturday for a report of a woman bleeding. Medic transported Flores to the hospital and a doctor discovered she had just given birth.
Police and Medic went back to Flores' residence and found the baby wrapped in plastic grocery bags on the bathroom floor. The baby was already dead.
Flores wasn't charged until after an autopsy was performed on the baby this morning. Investigators are not saying how the baby girl died.

When I heard this story I wondered if this mother gave birth at home since reports say that the baby was "less than a day old".

I don't understand what sort of "situation" would cause a woman to kill her newborn baby. There are plenty of couples out there who could provide a loving home for a child that can't have one of their own. Nothing justifies this act, and she should be punished to the fullest extent of the law before she meets her maker one day.
I understand the situation perfectly. Your family member killed her daughter. She killed a BABY!
My sister and brother in law are unable to have children. They're on a waiting list for years to adopt. I know my sister would've adopted and loved that baby as her own.
No excuses are necessary. What she did was wrong and she should pay the price.
I saw in the Disturber she had a translator in court. I'm assuming she is illegal since she can't speak English. Nice!

Compassion?!? Are you kidding me? Lets all break out in hearts and flowers for some scumbag who murdered a baby. This is unbelievable...I hope she gets capital punishment.
You are so right we don't understand your situation/culture, one who gets pregnant and then kills the baby. The compassion in this case, given by normal people who do not murder their newborn, are with the baby. May she never be free again.
We've experienced still births twice over the last 2 years, both within 2 weeks of the due date. Stories like this make me crazy....
What a tragedy... Irregardless of whether she is legal or not, her baby was a US citizen and deserves justice. I hope she never breaths free again.

I think she deserves to be put to death herself. I have 7 boys and a babygirl on the way, belieive me it gets hard and stressful but that does not mean I would go and kill them. I think she is sick and when she goes to prison the girls there will make sure she gets what she has coming to her.

I can't believe this. I just had a baby girl and Im only 21. THERE IS NO LOVE LIKE THE LOVE A MOTHER HAS FOR HER OWN CREATION!!! That baby was a part of her. Shes obviously still a kid herself. All we can do is pray for the family and this girls mental stability, she clearly has none. And to the family of this kid, there is NO excuse for murder, even in self defense, THOU SHALL NOT KILL, that baby was defenseless and helpless, she even gave her a name. Babygirl deserved life.

This is an ENGLISH speaking country maybe, but the main reason why its successful its for the immigrants of this country who work hard, if not harder than the average "American" because they are willing to work in anything and do whatever it takes to succeed. Only someone ignorant would try to say that one must post in English only... why don't you go and learn some other language, because although English is the primary language, it is not the only language spoken here, and i'm sure non-English speakers would like to take part of this blog... besides, this incident of which we are discussing happened to a Spanish speaking person, therefore those who are of Hispanic origin should have every right to comment in whichever language they choose... if this is a public blog and anyone can comment whatever they want, they should be able to do so in Spanish, French, or whatever other language. It's sad that we are in the year 2007 and such IGNORANCE and RACISIM still exists... some people lack culture and will never grow... Get something through your heads... It's unfortunate that this sad situation have led to such a racist and senophobic discussion. This girl is obviously a troubled kid. She needs phychological help regardless of the reasons why she committed this crime.

NO ONE! i know that nothing justifies what this girl has done but we are no one to be pointing fingers... we were not in her situation and we don't know what could have driven her to do what she did...so instead of judging the poor girl we should pray for her... Excuse us... This case is another crime compulsive. The religion of this girl is very wear in the sense that they haven't sexual relations before marriage... I said wear because this religion attack too much the people who do a sin... But Esther don't understand that she do two crimes: kill her daugther and don't say anything to her family... With too much respect, I can't understand this religion... Is very strict.
