look at this guys legs....looks like he's been kicking in a few doors!

All front doors are like that?

If you live in Charlotte, probably 75% of homes were built from start to finish in less than 60 days. They don't use the highest quality materials. If you think your door is more secure than this, you are fooling yourself. See that broken wood in the opening? That's the frame.

i'm impressed this family has a security camera! Bet this lugnut did not have a clue it was there... prob drunk or high when he broke in anyhow. But fairly good resolution on this cam! Someone will surely identify him I would think, from this pic.

It's a better photo than most of the bank pictures. Maybe the banks should call his security company.

this is kind of scary

Does anyone know what kind/brand of door is the safest and strongest??

I have a 'tract' home and my door is flimsy. I'm thinking I should get a more secure door AND door frame.

why do so many people worry about the strength of their doors when a large pane of thin glass is usually in every window. alot of people lock their doors, but no one usually ever bars their windows too...................... think about it!

Having lived in a nice urban neighborhood, I have seen very nice window bars. They have steel window bars that are white (assuming your windows are white) and they are directly lined up with the panes on the glass. You don't even notice them.

I'd say protect the windows first. My wife would notice a broken door if she arrived home to an empty house. She may not notice the broken or forced window that has let a burglar inside.

Security systems are like $30 a month. You can't beat that value.

It is worth it to get the security package with glass breakage AND window sensors. The front door isn't enough anymore.

Target sells a bar to put under your door handles to stop a kick-in. Well worth the $20.00. I saw an Officer on the news had one after 3 thugs kicked in his door. (remember the clown with ponytails?)
Also Bed & Bath at one time had window alarms.
If you get a home alarm system get the remote, worth it when outside with the dog.
Keep your guns clean & checked for misfiring.
But nothing beats a watchful neighbor & getting to know your local Police Patrol!!

Be safe...make them sorry.

Neighbors used to be very helpful. Back when mothers stayed home with their children, no one could come and go in the neighborhood without being noticed. Just a thought.

If you can't afford a security system, get a yard sign. I work for a company that sells/installs security systems and we sell the signs cheap for advertising purposes. Many other companies do the same. Burglers 99% of the time won't take the chance of breaking in, even if you have a yard sign. They'll skip on down to the next house without a sign. Think about it...will they say "This guy is bluffing. He just has the sign in his yard?"

Get a dog. Problem solved.

My dog weighs 50lbs and if someone broke into the house, I am scared to think of what would happen to the intruder. She's a herding dog, not a ghetto breed.

i can promise you yard signs dont help as much as you think they do... i had ADT signs in my yard, on my doors and on every downstair window, AND my security system was armed... the guys who kicked in my door did not care one bit. Granted the loud alarm made them hurry in my house, probably were in my house for less than a minute, but that didnt stop them. If they want it, theyll get in.... A gun blast to the skull or chest works nicely....

Anyone breaking into a house deserves to be shot. If you break into my house, it's a capital offense.

when i white man does a crime its kicks and giggles. when a black man does a crime hes a thug, devil, and every negative thing in the book. wake up charlotte quit being so naeve. its obviously a double standard round these parts. tell me why a white man can get 7 years for money laundering millions and a brother gets 30 yrs for selling a small amount of drugs. the system is very corrupt, and until u whitefolk realize that the betta off meck county as a whole would be.

OMG Had to bring race into it, didn't you? After reading all the comments, I don't see one person who thought better of this criminal just because he was white. There was no money laundering or drug sales in this story.

Perhaps you should stop dwelling on the criminal's race and wake up yourself.
