92-Year Old Woman Stabbed During Home Robbery Dies
A 92-year old woman died this morning from stab wounds she sustained during a home robbery on Sunday evening.
Police say Mildred Clontz arrived home last night around 7:00 pm and a man forced his way into her home on Knickerbocker Drive. The suspect(s) stabbed Ms. Clontz several times and robbed her home before fleeing on foot.
The victim was able to call 911 and briefly spoke with police after the attack. She described the suspect as a black male. If you have any information that could help police, please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

I have been sickened by some crimes I have read here in the past, but this… THIS has made me sick to my stomach and mad as hell!! It was bad enough when an elderly couple on Tuckasseegee Road were beaten and robbed in their own home, but THIS! . The bastard who did this should go to death row! This is what our own ineffective and irresponsible court system and judges have brought upon us- the elderly in Charlotte are now sitting ducks , thanks to our own criminal court system!! I am very embarrassed and ashamed for Charlotte today. Charlotte’s court system and judges have blood on their hands!! My GOD!!.. this poor woman all alone was in her 90’s!!!... and the bastard who did this didn’t just rob her, he had to STAB her! As if she were any kind of physical threat to him!!! Now we KNOW just how low and God-awful it has all become!
4/7/08 7:54pm: I agree, this is as low as the crooks can go! The woman lived to be 92 only to succumbed to the crook(s) lurking in Charlotte. If this did not do it, I don't know what will as far as punishing these thugs and give them the capital punishment. I hope to God I am on the jury of the bastard(s) who did so I can give them what they deserve, death!
I never really had an opinion about guns before (not against and not for it) but now, with all the craziness going on around here, I am looking for the best gun range and on my way to becoming a sharp shooter...watch out thugs!

There is only one thing to blame, the educational system of this city creates ghetto kids that are uncultured, uneducated and just plain trash. What a joke Charlotte is, what the hell is there really in this town? Nothing, just crime and more crime. This is the worst city in the South East and the most arrogant for no reason really, there is no culture here, there is nothing here worth keeping us here is there?

to 2:53 AM - The educational system doesn't work for any person that refuses to learn, or for that matter, just show up. The schools do not, nor should they, have to teach basic morality. The school is a place of learning, not an orphanage.
I'm not sure what the answer is because the thugs are not going away, no matter how nice of a city we try to create - they'll just continue to multiply in pockets around the city. I do believe that HARSH and IMMEDIATE punishment would help. It is well known that in order for punishment to have meaning, it must be swift and just - however this is obviously not the case when it takes up to a year or more to even be brought to trial. Probation is a joke - do we think that the probation officers are babysitting these people? PLEASE!! And I know that we are all sickened and outraged by these crimes, but somehow we are paralyzed as we do not know what we can do to change it. It will certainly take more than us venting our anger on this site or writing letters to make a difference. So does anyone have ideas you'd like to share? I'm all ears and more than willing to do whatever it takes to make a difference.

If you go to topix.com and enter the words 'home invasion' you will see this is an activity occurring all over the US , and can be black on white, black on black, white on black, asian on white, hispanic on white, black on hispanic, etc. however in NC it is primarily black on white. Recently in Wadesboro 5 black males tried to home invade a black woman and she shot one of the black boys. Point being we need to study and come together somehow, and unite against the anarchy. How can we motivate the governmnet of NC its ok to point out what is going on and even if it is a black on white crime, to be outraged. I dont even think I saw Governor Easley react to the murder of Eve Carson. He is too busy making a tv spots with little children, coaching them to spy on adults using too much water. Easley is notorious for invoking children just like Clinton was....
We spoke about this murder today while qualifying at the range.
We all agreed that it’s time for the courts to start locking up these violent offenders the first time for the first offence. Not to wait until they kill.
Time after time these POS break the law only to be let out on probation or have their sentence pled down to a lesser charge.
The Courts here try few cases, deals are made so more cases can be cleared.
We need more DA’s more judges and night court.
The odds are very good that if the animal that killed this woman is caught they will have a record.
I hope all the DA’s and Judges will think about this 92 year old victim the next time some POS stands before them with a new charge on top of a long list of past charges and think to them selves, this dirt bag is going to go out and hurt someone or kill someone next time.

We need more funding for prosecutors and judges. Stop letting violent offenders back out with just time served waiting for court.

I commute to Matthews everyday from another county. I don't want to live in Charlotte so I drive an hour to work.
Now I'm packing everyday at work. What kind of crap is it that you have to strap a gun to your ankle just to be safe at work?
I don't even work in a high risk job. It's high risk just driving into town for me.

I have lived on Knickerbocker for 3 years now and have always felt safe and happy there. We are all shocked. The police should be looking at those apartments across Monroe road,Castlewood apartments. If this thug left on foot, as they say, he may live in the general area. As a city , I hope the cops, courts and all of us do what we can to protect our elderly -and all of us for that matter- from these thugs that seem to be more bold than ever. Very sad for the Clontz family, very mad at the times we are living in.

her grandson on the news last night totally broke me down when he said he was grateful that the last persons face she saw.....wasnt the person who murdered her.
i think the cops absolutly know who did this & thats why they are not putting out the description she gave to them, to the public.
hopefully they are building a case. but i've learned the hard way that "justice" is only a show that was on fox network.

OMG I just looked up where Knickerbocker St is---I assumed it was around the west side of town but that is not that bad of an area--or at least it wasn't a couple years ago. Are we not safe ANYWHERE?
My condolences to the Clontz family, what a tragic loss of a special woman. I hope they catch this terrible person, and he never sees daylight again!!

Wrong! There is only one thing to blame, the ghetto ma ma who pops out the ghetto kids with an entitlement mentality! You can't fix what's wrong in the public schools unless you sterilize the animals unfit to breed! We are destroying ourselves as a species because the least fit are breeding out of control and the rest are left to fund the anarchy. This crime broke my heart. It wouldn't surprise me if the perpetrator turns out to be a female and lives in the neighborhood or is familiar with it i.e., visits someone in the neighborhood. Why do I say this--because this crime doesn't "feel" random it feels "planned" like the perpetrator was comfortable waiting for her. This person is also probably a meth-mouth since they are always desperately hard up for money.

Yes, Charlotte is a JOKE. I moved here 4 years ago (for the weather and to be able to enjoy the outdoors more often) and will move back (up NORTH, where it is much safer) as soon as I can sell my home. I feel as though I cannot enjoy my yard, my home (and I live in an "upscale neighborhood"), and shopping in public places. Violent crime is everywhere!
I'll put up with snow and cold, to avoid the VIOLENT CRIME that exists here. I grew up in Boston and except for contained areas of "bad" neighborhoods (outside downtown), it is a VERY safe city. In Charlotte, they need to start with GUN CONTROL! And tougher laws!
