Four Arrested after Attempted B&E in University Area

Following the victim's 911 call, a CMPD University Division Officer was en route to the home and spotted the suspects leaving the area. The Officer followed the suspects and arrested all four of them: Ashley Avery, 20; Anthony Byrd, 18; Darius Claitt, 17; and Bertha Lampkin, 21.

Look at this punk Byrd biting his bottom lip, he looks retarded. If any of us law abiding citizens were convicted of only 1 thing on this thugs rap sheet we would still be in jail. Someone tell me how he was still on the street ???????

I used to live across the street from Ashley Avery. She's just plain garbage. Look at her arrest record. She's only 20 years old, and already has about 20 felonies. Why don't we have a Three Strikes law for habitual felons like this piece of....?
I wish that guy had shot every one of them.

Thug life. These aren't slight mishaps. It is a lifestyle glamorized by the Tu-Pacs and Biggy Styles. Pops is in jail, mom is strung out and the dysfunctional family is on welfare. The kids grow up thinking that they don't have a chance so the are easily snatched up by the streets and the "thug life" lifestyle that makes them feel like they belong to something. It is really sad b/c it seems that everything turns into a racial thing when it is mainly a responsibility thing which starts from conception. The saddest part is that Gov Co. thinks it can raise these boneheads. News Flash they can't. They will only furhter domesticate them. The U.S. needs to start a new law. If you aren't disabled, retired, in school or working....YOU ARE IN THE ARMY. None of this something for nothing attitude that is so ever present.
Thug life isnt about TuPac or Biggie. Placing the blame there has long since past. The reality is, this attitude was alive and well long before TuPac was behind a mic recording music. There is a sense of entitlement among people today. "I should be owed for something" instead of getting a good education, learning to read, getting a job at 16 years of age even if it is flipping burgers at McDonalds. Much can be learned at 16 about working, collecting a paycheck, saving money. Unfortuantely, our justice system crapped out on all of us. There are no consequences to poor decisions and violent actions. Our justice system should throw the book at the offenders of the law. Instead, bail is given, offenders are then released to return to the very action that should have put them behind bars. Everyone is to blame. Not everyone wants to contribute, people dont want to work long hours to save money and build a future. They prefer lawlessness and abuse to a paycheck. That mindset wont change until jail is the only option when breaking the law. Hard labor should seriously considered. Prisons should be built and the fun should be over upon entering. Its ridiculous how our country has such a high violent crime count becuase we dont punish offenders. Frankly, the prison system should be revamped. Hard labor should be implemented. Why pay illegal workers to pick fruit? Teach these people real hard work and maybe the value of money, labor and work will slip into someones brains. I dont know all the answers but I do know the current system is failing every one of us!
These thugs are stupid, worthless, will never amount to nothing. They are too ugly to get a job so they go around stealing from others. Put their ugly ass's in jail and leave them there. Who is gonna hire these thugs with records like they have? NO one. They gonna keep ThugN till they get killed or kill someone else. Shoot em, do society a favor.
I guess we're waiting for a murder to happen like the Chapel Hill college student. Look at these (4) individuals rap sheets. Already felonies at such a age and no sign of them slowing down. Looks like they have been allowed for years to get away with what they do. I blame the system.
I bet if these four had broken into a judges home or the DA's home they may take a harder look at the rap sheets and come to the conclusion that they may need to spend some time in prison. I'm sure they all have done other crimes they didn't get caught at.
A black guy inside is getting an MBA and you've got black people outside trying to burglarize his home. What's the excuse for those attempting to break in as their skin color is the same. Shouldn't the black guy getting a master's degree be just as disadvantaged by the color of his skin (sarcasm). There likely would not have been charges had he elected to pull the trigger through the door. Rest assured I would have without hesitation. If more people started shooting through the door I believe these thugs would catch on.

Anthony Byrd - already out of jail by the way. Back on the streets to do it again - WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE! If I see him walking down the street I'm be very tempted to hit him with my car and just keep going. I wouldn't have one ounce of guilt either!
Really enjoyed this story, thanks for posting. I know it will result in a slap on the wrist, but it's good to see citizens taking this seriously.
I'm the guy whose University Area house was nearly burglarized Tuesday, April 15 by these clowns. I am speaking at this (4/28) evening's City Council meeting and was curious to know if any of the four perpetrators (Bertha Lampjin, Darius Claitt, Anthony Byrd, & Ashley Avery) have been released. Combined, the four of them have a total of 64 charges against them with Ashley accounting for the lion's share (5 misdemeanors and 19 felonies). I read that Byrd (17 misdemeanors, 7 felonies) is already out. Damn!!!
