On May 21, 2008 at approximately 12:30 p.m., CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) apprehended Christopher Lamont Cooper- who was wanted for two counts of 2nd Degree Rape, two counts of 2nd Degree Sex Offense and Assault by Strangulation.VCAT developed information that led them to tracking Cooper through several counties. Officers were able to conduct a successful covert apprehension of the suspect on Montreat Street in Charlotte.
Cooper was aware of his fugitive status and had been actively eluding capture for more than a month. He is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail on $310,000 bond.

Put this thug away for 30 years and let the "boys" have at him. He's scum, a punk and derserves a harsher penalty as in finality!!!!
This guy is a class A LOSER! I had the misfortune of renting a place to this low life (was a referral from am associate, obviously don't listen to that person anymore). Never liked this guy and the only thing I'm astonished by is that it took him this long to get locked up. Adds zero value to society and will add zero value to the penal systym.
I love the CMPD, but they have to do everything by the book, with too few resources to stake out a house 24/7. This means that Mr Rapist didn't have to work too hard to elude capture. Remember that new reporter knocking on doors a few years ago, and finding "fugitives" when they open their front door? Sorry, CMPD, I have little faith in the "system". The criminals know how to play you.
Wow, this is the guy who confessed to WSOC's Erica Bryant that he killed UNCC Student Ira Yarmolenko. That was 15 days before this arrest. Please update this story.
I'm Chris Cooper,and i did'nt rape anyone nor did i have anything to do with a murder,also i was'nt on the run! My apartment was in my name ,and my mail came there.All the CMPD had to do is knock on my front door.I payed my landlord rent every week,she should've known this was'nt true. I'm surprised she sayed that about me i never had a problem with her.
