GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A four-hour standoff came to an end after police took a woman who was armed into custody.

Investigators say round 11:20 a.m. on Monday they were called to a domestic dispute on Fourth Street in Cramerton.   The woman’s son made the call, saying his mother shot at him.

According to the police report, Deborah Lynne Pope was visiting her son and his family when the incident happened.

Pope’s son told police that he woke up to the sound of gunfire.  He then tried to go in and check on his mother.  “She told him that if he tried to come in she’d kill him,” according to police.

When the son opened the door, Pope fired the rifle.

The son then gathered up the family and was able to make it out of the home with the family.  Officers tried to talk with the woman, Deborah Lynn Pope, 50, but  they witnessed her retreat to the bathroom with a rifle in hand.

Police said Pope made several appearances at the front door of the home, but refused to comply with instructions to come outside.

After four hours, authorities used chemicals and distraction devices to take Pope into custody.

She is now facing a slew of charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest and firing into an occupied dwelling.  She’s being held in the Gaston County Jail under $20,000 bond.
