77-Year Old Man Arrested After Assaulting A Good Samaritan

KANNAPOLIS – A Salisbury man has been charged with assaulting a woman at a Food Lion in Kannapolis.

Bobby J. Childress, 77, was arrested and charged with assault on a female.

According to police, on April 17, the Kannapolis Police Department received a call from a woman at the Food Lion on North Cannon Boulevard regarding an assault.

The victim, an employee of Food Lion, said that she helped an elderly man to take groceries to his car.

When they got to the man’s car, the man allegedly grabbed the store employee by the arms and attempted to push her into the car.  The victim began yelling for him to stop.  She broke away from him and ran back inside the store.  The suspect then left the scene.  The victim was able to give a good description of the man and his vehicle.

Based on the information gleaned from the investigation, Mr. Childress was arrested and has been charged with one count of assault on a female.
