9 Counts Of Assault With Deadly Weapon For Shooter

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. – Gaston County authorities took a man into custody after a shooting during an overnight standoff with SWAT and police.

Authorities said James Morris Thomas fired several shots at police around 8 p.m. when they were called to a mobile home on Farmsworth Drive for a domestic disturbance Sunday.

The Gaston County police and SWAT were called to the scene after the Thomas barricaded himself in his mobile home.

Police and SWAT were on the scene all night and early into Monday morning before they were able to take the Thomas into custody around 3:30 a.m.

Thomas is charged with nine counts for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held at the Gaston County Jail under a $1 million bond.

No one was injured during the shooting.
