ebc4d358-ed9f-11e4-859d-00151712edf8Police say that the deadly fire that occurred Tuesday morning in east Charlotte was set intentionally.

Right after 7 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters answered a call to a fire at a home on Harpley Court. They found two people injured there.

Tamika McClelland, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene by police.

Halim Stovall, 39, was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center-University and later pronounced dead there.

Police had first responded to the home about 3 a.m. on a disturbance call. Responding officers had found Stovall there knocking on one of the home’s windows. Officers then escorted Stovall into the house to get belongings before they left.

According to police, Stovall broke into the home about 7 a.m., poured gasoline inside, and set the home on fire.

McClelland had been at home with two daughters at the time, ages 8 and 21.

The daughters escaped from the house and called 911.

Crime scene investigators with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were on the scene shortly after the first had been put out, speaking the McClelland’s daughters, interviewing neighbors, and collecting information.
