Lancaster 16-year-old Charged as Adult With Murder in Shooting

CIC Default Crime ReportLancaster police charged a 16-year-old boy as an adult with murder in the shooting and killing of a man Saturday night.

Derrick Leron Stalk, 16, of Lancaster was taken to a Department of Juvenile detention facility located in Columbia.

Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies received a call at 8:15 p.m. to the 2100 block of Thomasville Street after gunshots were reported by witnesses. Responding officers found 42-year-old Jeffery Dale Barrett of Lancaster on the side of the road in a ditch. The location was off McIlwaine Road in a residential neighborhood south of Lancaster, close to Barrett’s home.

Barrett was found with apparent gunshot wounds to his leg and chest. He was taken to Spring Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead there. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday.

Investigators talked to residents and witnesses to get a description of the suspected shooter, which helped them take Stalk into custody at a house close to Evans Drive later in the evening.
