Mount Holly Woman Arrested in Lincoln County Break-in

Hughes, Amy GreeneA rental property owner assisted Lincoln County sheriff’s investigators in solving a break-in at his property that happened on Sept. 14th.

The rental home is located in the 400 block of South N.C. 16 Business. Police responded to the location after the property owner, Larry Jones, had reported a suspicious blue Ford Explorer was parked at the home.

The home was rented to Steven Neel, who had been in the hospital at that time.

Jones saw two women at the house and confronted them. The women told Jones that Neel had been evicted and they were picking up things for him. Jones told them to leave.

The landlord wrote down the Explorer’s license plate and told police there had been five people in the vehicle, which had left by the time police arrived.

There were jewelry and men’s rings worth over $2,000 stolen from the house.

Following Jones’s information, police tracked the vehicle down in Charlotte before interviewing people who were possibly suspects and witnesses.

The interviews led to the arrested of 35-year-old Amy Greene Hughes of Mount Holly. Hughes has been charged with felony breaking and entering a building, possession of stolen goods, and larceny after breaking and entering. She was jailed on bail of $9,500.
