2 Arrested After Being Tracked By Phone App

AR-160529247A phone app helped lead police to two suspected thieves on Wednesday.

The suspects broke into cars at Medline Industries on East Power Drive in Lincoln County and stole an iPhone, pair of boots, $260, and a Social Security card.

Unfortunately for the thieves, the girlfriend of the owner of the iPhone told police she had a phone app that could track it.

Police were also able to get a description of the two suspects’ vehicle, which was a silver Honda Civicwith with a Carmax tag on the front and gray rims.

Through the phone tracking app and vehicle description, deputies were able to find the car in Lincolnton parked on North Aspen Street at a convenience store. The two men were found in the store and arrested.

Police discovered one of the suspects had the stolen phone.

Police charged 22-year-old Caleb Westley Ward of Holly Springs Drive, Newton, with five counts of conspiracy, three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, one count of aiding and abetting, three counts of larceny, and three counts of possession of stolen goods.
