Teenager Charged in Double Homicide

AR-160529180.jpg&MaxW=315&MaxH=315A 17-year-old has been charged for the deaths of two people who were found just after midnight on Thursday.

Jose Adan Lopez Rios of Rogers Avenue, Gastonia, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The victims were Derreck Monique Brice, 33, and his cousin, Lashea Jeanine Coleman, 26, who has cerebral palsey.

Police said Brice was an acquaintance with Rios. Exactly how the victims were killed has not been released, but they both suffered from traumatic injuries.

Brice helped care for Coleman and her daughter, police said. The day care for the child called family on Thursday to say the child hadn’t been picked up.

Brice’s Dodge Charger was found at the Mid-Town Motor Inn on Friday morning, close to Franklin Boulevard and U.S. 321.
