Burglar Flees Fort Mill Apartment After Finding 2 Children Sleeping

Burglary-stockPolice in Fort Mill are looking for a man who broke into an apartment but ran away after he found two children in a bedroom there.

Police received a call from a 13-year-old girl about a burglary at a Sunland Drive apartment on Friday just after 10 a.m., according to Fort Mill Police Department spokesman Bryan Zachary.

The girl said she had been sleeping in an upstairs bedroom with her sister when someone opened the bedroom door.

Zachary said the girls saw a stranger standing there. The man saw the girls and fled.

One of the girls looked out the window and saw the burglary suspect get into what looked like a black Toyota Corolla with a North Carolina license plate. The vehicle had been parked right in front of the apartment.

The man was described as white with a blue baseball cap on.

Police found an apartment adjacent to this one had also been burglarized, Zachary said. In both places, the suspect had broken the back doors’ glass panels and may have stolen items from each home through their front doors.

There have been no arrests yet made.
