938f9c5b-40ba-4a7a-b7d4-97d5f153cc1cPolice said they charged a Rock Hill man with child neglect for leaving his daughter unattended after passing out from taking cold medication.

Darryl Ray Hinson Jr., 23, has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child, jail records show. He was held at the city jail in Rock Hill.

The police report shows Hinson’s mother came to his apartment on Celanese Road on Wednesday to pick the daughter up but Hinson wasn’t answering the door. The mother said she heard the daughter crying and saying she wouldn’t wake her dad up.

The door, which had been chained shut, was unlocked by the apartment manager, police said. After breaking open the door, Hinson’s mother found him on the couch asleep but couldn’t wake him up. EMS was called.

Police said Hinson finally woke up and started coughing after around 20 minutes. He tired to find a cigarette and flight it after waking up.

Police also said Hinson was uncooperative and evasive with questions from officers. He said he didn’t take illegal drugs but admitted he took cold medicine that morning.
