Lincolnton Woman Charged with DWI, Child Abuse

AR-160829091A woman who was first pulled over by police on Wednesday for speeding is also facing drunken driving and child abuse charges.

Robin Brooks Darty, 50, of Lincolnton, was stopped just before 3 p.m. while driving her 2013 Ford vehicle on U.S. 321 in Dallas close to the N.C. 279 intersection. The citation shows Darty was driving 79 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Highway Patrol Trooper J.B. Thornburg burg, who pulled Darty over, noticed she possessed a vodka bottle and that there were two children below the age of 16 in the vehicle.

The citation also shows Darty had glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol, and was unable to follow directions from Thornburg.

Darty registered 0.13 blood alcohol content on a Breathalyzer test. The legal limit is 0.08 in North Carolina.

Darty has been charged with child abuse, driving while impaired, and having unsealed liquor in the passenger area of a vehicle. She was released from Gaston County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
