Ex-McDonalds Employee Sentenced to 10 Years for Robbery

joshuabennettA previous employee of a McDonalds in Fort Mill was arrested after he robbed the restaurant at gunpoint while locking a customer and employees in a back office in January.

Police caught 21-year-old Joshua Bennett of Charlotte with sacks of money. He was sentenced to prison for 10 years after pleading guilty to armed robbery, kidnapping, and drug charges on Tuesday, according to 16th Circuit assistant solicitor Ryan Newkirk.

Newkirk said Bennett had been a former employee at the same McDonalds he robbed.

Police responded to a tip about the crime happening about 11 p.m. and the location on S.C. 160 near Gold Hill Road around 11 p.m. in January.

York County deputies and Tega Cay officers found Bennett there leaving the store carrying a gun and bags of money. He also had narcotics on him, police said.

Officers arrested Bennett immediately and has been jailed ever since.

The victims in the store were not harmed.
