Man Arrested for Beating Woman, Injuring Child

ar-160928564Police arrested and had to use a Taser on a man who hurt his child and seriously injured a woman.

Pedro Gonzalez Vasquez, 32, of 310 S. Myrtle School Road, has been accused of using a full bottle of beer to beat the woman he shares a home with and also intentionally causing a laceration on his son’s arm, police said. The boy is younger than 16, according to police.

Gastonia Police Officer J.C. Henry arrived at the home in response to a domestic assault call. Vasquez refused to obey Henry’s orders or to put his hands behind his back, police said, which forced Henry to tase Vasquez.

Vasquez is facing misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and child abuse and charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was held in Gaston County Jail on Sunday just after 10 p.m. on a domestic violence hold.
