Man Extradited to North Carolina on First-Degree Murder Charge

ar-160928078The man accused in the killing in Tim Brackeen, a Shelby police officer, has been booked in Gaston County Jail on Tuesday after being brought back from Rhode Island.

Irving Lucien Fenner Jr., 23, was jailed just before 8:30 p.m. He is charged with first-degree murder and held without bond.

Brackeen had been trying to serve warrants to Fenner on Sept. 10 when gunfire was exchanged between the two. Both were wounded and Brackeen died two days later.

Family members allegedly helped Fenner flee to Rhode Island. He was arrested there on Sept. 14 and fought extradition to North Carolina.

Gov. Pat McCrory had signed extradition papers for bringing the accused man back to Shelby, but he agreed to return to North Carolina.
