Prayer Vigil Held for Woman Killed By Bullet Shot Into Home

CIC Default Crime Scene TapeA prayer vigil was held Sunday in memory of the woman who died after being hit by bullets that went through a Gastonia home early Saturday.

Jacobia English Lane, 37, of Sumter, S.C., had been inside the home with family members sitting on a couch when a bullet shot from outside went through the house and hit Lane in the back of her head, according to family spokesman Christopher Dennis of Charlotte.

Dennis said another bullet had also hit a pillow on the second floor on a bed where Lane’s husband had been sleeping. He was not harmed.

The vigil was scheduled for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. It was located at the home at 938 Nottingham Drive.

There have been no arrests made in the shooting death, but police know around 30 rounds were fired into the home from a high-powered rifle about 12:30 a.m., according to Gastonia Detective Sgt. Nancy Capistran.

Anyone with information to help identify the shooter is urged to contact Gastonia police Detective Robert Bryson at 704-866-6702 or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000. Those with information leading to an arrested are eligible for up to $1,000.
