69-Year-Old Woman Killed in Belmont House Fire

CIC Default Blue LightA Belmont woman died during a fire that started in her home on Wednesday morning.

While coming home from work just after 7 a.m., a volunteer fireman saw smoke coming from a home at 1805 South Point Road. He pulled into the home’s driveway and began knocking on the doors to see there was anyone inside.

About 30 firefighters from six different departments were called to the scene and were able to put out the fire. They then found Shirlene Daughtridge, 69, dead in her living room where the most damage was done. It’s believed that Daughtridge was inside the home when the fire broke out and items inside might have prevented her from escaping.
