Cathy Lynn Lentini made her first appearance in court Thursday afternoon after she was arrested in Bartow County, Ga. for the 2001 murder of Buelah Dickerson, who died from blunt force trauma to the head

The defendant was addressed as “Cathy Piper”, her maiden name and the name that she’s charged under.

Prosecutors said that was also her name at the time of the murder in 2001. She had since remarried and now goes under the last name “Lentini”.

Her attorney, chief public defender Charles Caldwell, said he has yet to go through the details of the case with her. Yet with the case being more than 10-years-old, he expressed the challenges for both the state and the defense to identify evidence and witnesses in the case

A possible motive has not yet been released. Lentini’s attorney did not say whether Lentini will plead guilty or not guilty.

The said the defendant could face either the death penalty to life in prison without parole if proven guilty.
