Arrest Made in 2011 Hit and Run Case

Police in Gastonia have made an arrest six years after the fact in connection to a 2011 hit and run.

The suspect, Lucas Heath Fuller, was arrested on Wednesday after years of the case remaining cold. According to police reports, Fuller struck the victim, 54-year-old Sheila Patterson, with his car on August 27, 2011.

The victim had been walking on West Franklin Boulevard near Trakas Boulevard when she was struck by a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene.

Although the incident occurred in the late hours of the night, the victim was not found until the next day. A passing driver took her to a nearby Gastonia hospital, but Patterson was later transported to Carolinas Medical Center. Two days later, the victim was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries.

The case was revived after new information was given to police by a citizen. As a result of the interview, Fuller was apprehended and charged with felony hit and run.
