The following year-to-date statistics are compared to January-August of 2012:

  • Homicide – 2.9% Decrease (35 Total in 2013, 5 in August)
    • Compare to 34 from Jan-August of 2012
  • Robbery – 3.7% Increase (1164 Total YTD, 145 in August)
  • Rape – 5.8% Increase – (164 Total YTD, 14 in August 2013)
    • Compare to 155 from Jan-August 2012
  • Arson – 16.0% Increase (152 Total YTD, 19 in August)
    • Compare to 131 from Jan-August of 2012
  • Vehicle Theft – 13.3% Decrease (1222 Total YTD, 185 in August)
    • Compare to 1410 from Jan-August of 2012
  • Larceny
    • Total – 3.2% Decrease (14553 Total YTD, 1933 in August)
    • Auto – 8.7% Decrease (4955 Total YTD, 665 in August)
  • Burglary
    • Total – 16.5% Decrease (4258 Total YTD, 600 in August)
      • Compare to 5102 from Jan-August of 2012
    • Residential – 9.8% Decrease (3385 Total YTD, 482 in August)
    • Commercial – 35.2% Decrease (873 Total YTD, 118 in August)
  • Aggravated Assault – 3.5% Decrease (2095 Total YTD, 295 in August)

About CMPD

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have divided Charlotte into 13 districts, varying in size.  The number of assigned officers also varies between districts.  CMPD is comprised of around 1,717 sworn officers, over 564 civilian staff, and over 400 volunteers. The department not only patrols the city limits, but also enforces the unincorporated communities of Mecklenburg County. We have included the crime statistics page to display the progress made against crime in each Mecklenburg area division.
