GASTONIA, N.C. – A Gaston County man is charged with child neglect after authorities say a child in his care was found unattended and severely dehydrated.
The Gastonia Police Department arrested 24-year-old Matthew McCall early Thursday morning at his home on Burt Avenue.
According to the report, Mr. McCall was babysitting the child for its mother for a few days. When the mother arrived the home she found the baby in a soiled diaper and unresponsive. Mr. McCall was not home at the time and the baby was alone in the home.
Police say the child was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital for treatment and is expected to be ok.
McCall was taken to the Gaston County Jail and held under a $100,000 bond. He faces a charge of neglect child abuse with severe physical injury.
Gaston County Department of Social Services and Gastonia Police’s Youth Bureau are investigating.
