Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation Of All Watauga Co. Schools

breaking newsWATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. – All Watauga County schools have been evacuated after a bomb threat Tuesday morning.

Boone police said a person called the Watauga County dispatch center  around 7:30 a.m. about an ‘unspecified bomb threat’ for a school in the district but did not indicate which school.

As a precautionary, all students and faculty from each school have been evacuated while police search every school.

Officers are in all nine schools and officials moved students to safe locations on or near school campuses.

According to a statement on the school district’s web site, all children and school personnel are safe.  Law enforcement is inspecting each school to ensure that it is clear of any threats.

The statement also said school officials anticipate that the buildings will be pronounced safe in time for students and faculty to return to complete the rest of the school day and parents do not need to pick up their children early.

Several fire departments are helping in the search of the buildings. There are about 4,500 students in the school district.
