Brief Lockdown Lifted, Suspect In Custody At UNC Chapel Hill

uncCHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC Police say a person is in custody after an alert was issued for an armed and dangerous person on or near campus Sunday afternoon.

The campus was on lockdown for 30 minutes. Students and staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill were told to go inside, close their doors and windows, and stay inside for their safety.

The UNC Department of Public Safety reported an armed and dangerous person on or near campus late Sunday afternoon. It’s not clear what prompted the alert.

The alert came as the Lady Tarheels are playing in the NCAA tournament inside at Carmichael Arena. The Men’s basketball game is set to get underway at 5:20 in San Antonio, Texas.
