Three Monroe men are facing felony animal cruelty charges for setting the neighbor’s cat on fire.
Monroe Police have arrested two of the suspects, Clyde Mackey and Stanislav Nadol and were still searching for Rico Bennett in connection with the crime.
Police reports state that on Sunday evening at the Castle Road Apartments Mr. Bennett, a resident at the apartments, was upset that the cat had been getting on his car. He asked Nadol and Mackey to help him catch the cat. Witnesses say they heard him say “I’ll set it on fire”.

The men then grabbed the cat, Bennett poured lighter fluid on it and set it on fire. Witnesses reported the cat running away with its fur in flames and saw the three men laughing.
The cat, a black cat named Midnight, couldn’t be found while police were on the scene. They came back the next day using thermal imaging equipment to look under buildings but still the cat couldn’t be found. They feared Midnight was dead.
Finally, around 3:00am on Tuesday morning Midnight showed up at the front door of his home. The owner called for him and got him some food. The injured cat came right to her.
Midnight was taken to the vet to be treated for burns along his back, neck and ears. He had third-degree burns over 30% of his body but with treatment the doctor expects him to be ok.
According to Monroe Police Department, Nadol and Mackey have both been released on bond.
