Charges Filed After DWI Crash Sends One To Hospital

DUI CRASHCHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person was injured when a car slammed into a tractor-trailer on I-77 early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. on I-77 near the Clanton Road exit.  The driver of the car was charged with DWI, reckless driving and speeding.  The driver’s name has not been released.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of the vehicle was doing over 100 mph on I-77 when they lost control on their car, hit a wall, crossed into on coming traffic and slammed into a tractor-trailer.

There were three people in the car during the time of the accident.

One person suffered life-threatening injuries and a second person suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, according to Medic.

All lanes have reopened on I-77 after being blocked for a few hours while crews cleared the scene.
