Charlotte Man Charged After Video of Dog Abuse Posted Online

AnimalAbuseA video that went viral online Tuesday resulted in police charging a Charlotte man with animal cruelty.

Charlotte-Mecklneburg Police arrested Charles Lamont Davidson at his house in the 3500 block of Simmons Street.

According to CMPD’s Animal Care and Control division spokeswoman Melissa Knicely before Davidson was arrested Wednesday, the video showed animal cruelty happening.

The dog was removed from Davidson’s home on Tuesday evening by Animal Care & Control, police said. Davidson handed over ownership of the dog to the Control. A second dog of Davidson’s was found on Wednesday at a different address and was also removed from the man’s ownership.

The first dog was examined by a veterinarian after being taken to a shelter. Police said the dog did not have injuries or wounds that could be seen, but did show submissive behavior.

Animal Care and & Control will continue to care for both dogs during trial for Davidson, according to police.
