A Charlotte man pleaded guilty in court Thursday to possessing bath salts and having firearms as a felon. Twenty-five year-old Raumeen Shiraz was arrested in July after agents with the DEA and FBI executed a search warrant on his home.

According to authorities, Shiraz was making the drug methylone, known on the street as “bath salts”,  in a home lab. He was operating as Shiraz Lab Supply under a newly-acquired business license. Shiraz made as much as $90,000 a year selling the drugs online.

The investigation started just over a year ago, after Shiraz’s probation officer noticed many suspicious chemicals in his house during a routine check. The probation officer notified the FBI, who started looking into Shiraz. He was on probation at the time for firearm by felon. During his July arrest, officers found four handguns in plastic baggies at Shiraz’s home. Aside from seizing the chemicals in his home, authorities found more chemicals in storage units in Charlotte and Matthews.

Shiraz faces up to 30 years in prison and over $1 million in fines after pleading guilty to firearm by felon and possession with intent to distribute methylone.
