A Charlotte woman was found guilty Friday of second-degree kidnapping and child abduction for abducting a friend’s baby after faking being pregnant and taking the child from a baby shower.

Andrea Endara, 27, has been sentenced to at least six years and three months in jail. The jury couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict for charges of assault with a deadly weapon, and she was found not guilty for assault on a child.

Endara abducted the other woman’s 1-month-old after faking being pregnant and going to a baby shower in her honor, according to prosecutors.

Endara had been pretending to help the child’s mother find a job. Prosecutors said Endara drove the mother and her 4-year-old and 1-month-old to a Charlotte apartment complex, where she brandished a knife and took the children inside the apartment.

Endara came back out with the 4-year-old and drove the mother and the child back home, leaving the baby inside the complex, police said.

The baby was found by police unharmed.
