Charlotte Women Charged with Stealing Checks from Mailboxes

moneyThree women from Charlotte have received charges for stealing personal and business checks from mailboxes on Brawley School Road and Langtree Road in south Iredell County in Lake Norman.

Precious Miracle Sheff, 21, Jasmine Diana Tillman, 23, and Toren Nilaja Hemphill, 22, each received charges of one count of misdemeanor larceny and six counts of larceny of a chose in action.

“Chose in action” refers to the check, bank note, or another type of money payment drawn on or issued by a bank.

Tillman was arrested and jailed in Iredell County on bail of $10,000. Sheff was arrested then freed on custody release by a magistrate. Police are still looking for Hemphill.

The women had stolen the checks from several mailboxes and then deposited them at an ATM into a bank account between the dates of March 7 and 13, according to Sheriff Darren Campbell. The women then withdrew the money, Campbell said.
