Cherryville High School Evacuated After “Suspicious Briefcase” Was Found

Cherryville hatCHERRYVILLE, N.C. – Students at Cherryville High School were forced to leave the building on Friday morning after faculty members found a suspicious briefcase in the school media center.

The briefcase was found around 10:45 a.m. and appeared suspicious because of where it was found, according to the Gaston County Police Department.

The briefcase had zip ties on it that tied off combination lock tumblers used to secure both latches.

Faculty and students left the building and the Gaston County Police Department bomb squad arrived.

Officers determined that the briefcase belonged to a substitute teacher who left it in the media center.

They found nothing harmful and the zip ties were installed by the manufacturer of the briefcase and had not been removed by the owner.

Students returned to class at 11:45 a.m., according to police.
