Children and Mother Dead After Murder-Suicide

Two children and their mother are dead after a murder-suicide on Saturday.

The incident began after 3-year-old Iliyah Miller and 7-year-old were assaulted by their mother, 34-year-old Christina Elizabeth Treadway. According to police, the assault took place in the 2100 block of Sebastiani Drive in northwest Charlotte.

After assaulting her children, Treadway traveled to a bridge on Interstate 485 where she jumped to her death.

The body of Treadway was found shortly afterward near Old Gum Bridge Road bridge. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations of the case led them to the residence on Sebastiani Drive. After forcing their way inside, the two children were found suffering from life-threatening injuries as a result of the assaults. Both children were rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead from their injuries.

Police now say they are working towards finding a motive or a reason for the tragic killings and suicide, but expect a lengthy investigation before they find any answers. Officers have also said that the father of the children was found but is not a suspect in the case. No other people were inside the house at the time of the assault.

The incident marks the second and third homicides of the year in Charlotte.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
