CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Tryon was blocked in both directions due to a traffic accident near I-485 Monday morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department was dispatched to the 10800 block of North Tryon at about 11:50 a.m. for a collision with an entrapment.

CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit says a 1994 Acura Integra traveling on outbound North Tryon Street when the vehicle began to skid out of control.

The Integra slid into the oncoming lanes of traffic, the inbound side, when it was struck by a 2000 Chevy Blazer.

The impact, officials say, caused both vehicles to leave the roadway.

One person, an occupant of the Integra, was taken to CMC-Main by air with injuries described as life threatening.

Two additional patients, both occupants of the Blazer, were taken to CMC Main with injuries described as minor.

During the course of the investigation, officials say a person of interest developed, and the identity and location of the person of interest (pictured above) is wanted by authorities. North Tryon was shut down in both directions near I-485 until about 12:15, when northbound traffic began to flow.

Southbound North Tryon reopened around 3 p.m.
