Police are looking for the vehicle and driver that hit and badly injured a pedestrian on a ramp going from Independence Boulevard to Charlottetowne Avenue early Friday.
The 26-year-old victim sustained head injuries that were life-threatening and that Carolinas Medical Center doctors determined appear to be from being hit by the vehicle, according to CMPD Detective Kevin Allred.
Police will release the name of the victim after his family has been notified, Allred said.
Allred said a motorist saw a body in the road around 3:15 a.m. before turning around and calling 911 while waiting for the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC to come on the scene.
CMPD are reviewing traffic camera video near the area to determine which direction the suspect would have driven away.
According to Allred, police want to speak to the driver of a burgundy Dodge Ram pickup that has a bed cover and a two-door white sedan that has a sunroof.
It is believed the vehicle that hit the pedestrian victim would only have minor damage to its front right corner, police said.
The vehicle also would have been around Charlottetowne Avenue and Seventh Street from 2:30 a.m. and 3:10 a.m., according to police.
Police ask anyone who was a witness to the crash or has more information for the investigation to contact Allred at 704-432-2169 or contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
