CMPD’s Firearm By Felons Hotline Successful

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police began a program earlier this year that is helping take some of the most dangerous people off the street. The hotline is opened for people to call and provide tips about felons carrying guns. The hotline has received 1,600 calls from people and it’s resulted in 14 arrests and 24 guns taken off the streets. Police say most of the people arrested so far have been convicted of crimes and are pretty dangerous.

One of those arrested is Anthony Brown. His criminal background includes charges for cocaine possession, a stolen firearm, and probation violation. Another arrest was Roderick Chambers and his background included assault on a government official. Timothy Brown was also arrested and had been convicted of multiple armed robberies, drugs, and assault and felony hit-and-run.

Police are using billboards, business cards, and ads before previews in movie theaters to help spread the word. The Firearms By Felon Hotline number is (704) 336-6000.
