Criminal Record Details Released About Keith Scott

keith_scott_jpgThere are more details being revealed about the criminal record of Keith Scott, the man fatally shot last week by a Charlotte police officer.

According to court documents, Scott was a security guard in Gastonia at Eastridge Mall, a job he used to provide for his wife and seven kids.

According to records, Scott served prison time for over eight years in Texas for assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. According to Scott’s attorney in that case, he shot another man he believed had been threatening his family.

Records also show his wife briefly took out a restraining order against him last year, but later dropped it.

The order was filed Oct. 5 of last year and dismissed by Rakeyia Scott 11 days later on Oct. 16.

On the form from last October, Scott’s wife wrote, “He hit my 8 year old in the head a total of three times with is [sic] fist….He kicked me and threaten [sic] to kill us last night with his gun. He said he is a ‘killer’ and we should know that.”

When the complaint asked if there was a reason for police to consider Scott a potential threat, the wife marked “yes” and wrote that Scott carries a 9mm gun.

In addition, Scott had convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and DWI in Gaston County, as well as conviction for traffic offenses in South Carolina.

Family and friends say that Scott had been recovering from injuries including a traumatic brain injury suffered during an accident when the shooting happened last week.
