DA’s Office: Crimes Against Persons Team Conducts Two Week-Long Trials

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The DA’s Crimes Against Persons Team tried two defendants the week of September 24, 2012, in Mecklenburg County Superior Court. The trials were held in courtrooms 5150 and 5370.

Ismail Camara, 33, was tried for 1) first-degree rape and 2) first-degree kidnapping before The Honorable Yvonne Mims Evans, Superior Court Judge. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.

Angel Vazquez, 20, was tried for 1) assault inflicting serious bodily injury and 2) carrying a
concealed weapon. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. The Honorable Eric L. Levinson,
Superior Court Judge, scheduled Vazquez’s sentencing hearing for the week of October 15,
2012.

One defendant pled guilty before his case was called for trial:
Estachius Gabriel, 33, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit common law robbery. Judge
Levinson sentenced Gabriel to 8-10 months in prison.
