DA’s Property Team Convicts 2 Defendants of Felonies During Trial Week

During the week of October 1-5, 2012, the District Attorney’s Property Team called cases for trial in courtroom 5150 before The Honorable Yvonne Mims Evans, Superior Court Judge and in courtroom 5370 before The Honorable Jesse B. Caldwell, III, Superior Court Judge.

George Thompson, 43, was tried for 1) three counts of felony receiving stolen goods and 2) one count of misdemeanor failure to obtain a permit for the purchase of precious metals. The jury returned verdicts of guilty on two counts of felony receiving stolen goods and one count of misdemeanor failure to obtain a permit for the purchase of precious metals. Judge Evans sentenced Thompson to 7-9 months in prison; that sentence was suspended pending his successful completion of 24 months of supervised probation.

Michael Heard, 20, was tried for 1) felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle and 2) felony
larceny. The jury returned verdicts of not guilty to both charges.

Kevin Patterson, 21, was tried for 1) felony breaking or entering, 2) felony larceny and 3)
conspiracy. The jury returned verdicts of not guilty to all charges.

When his case were called for trial, Javon Johnson, 22, pled guilty to 1) five counts of felony
breaking or entering a motor vehicle, 2) three counts of misdemeanor larceny and 3) felony
larceny. Judge Caldwell sentenced Johnson to 14-18 months in prison; that sentence was
suspended pending his successful completion of 36 months of supervised probation. As a
condition of his probation, Johnson must serve 60 days in jail.
