Day Care Worker Charged with Child Abuse was Freed on Bail

Rebecca Wilt JacksonA day care worker in Charlotte who was arrested and charged for abusing a 5-month-old girl Friday has been released on bail of $10,000.

45-year-old Rebecca Wilt Jackson was released from Mecklenburg County jail after being charged with inflicting serious bodily injury and intentional child abuse.

The baby girl was found seriously injured and unconscious at the Easter Seals UCP Children’s Center on May 6. Details of the injuries were not released by police when Jackson was arrested late Friday.

Officers had obtained evidence and information during their investigation identifying Jackson as a suspect. Arrest warrants were obtained for her and she was arrested Friday evening without incident.

Police took Jackson for interview with a detective at CMPD headquarters.

The Easter Seals UCP day care, located on Marsh Road, said in a statement that Jackson is no longer employed at their facility.
